KJV Bible Verses for Recovery

Recovery is not white-knuckle willpower — it is daily surrender. Below are verified King James Version verses, God's promises for the one fighting to be free, and a prayer for the next twenty-four hours.

1. Scripture — Verified KJV

  • "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new."

    2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV)

  • "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it."

    1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV)

  • "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me."

    Philippians 4:13 (KJV)

  • "I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings."

    Psalm 40:1–2 (KJV)

  • "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed."

    James 5:16 (KJV)

  • "If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed."

    John 8:36 (KJV)

  • "For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace."

    Romans 6:14 (KJV)

  • "It is of the LORD'S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness."

    Lamentations 3:22–23 (KJV)

2. God's Promise

  • In Christ you are a new creature — the old has passed away (2 Corinthians 5:17).
  • Every temptation has a God-made way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13).
  • Whom the Son sets free is free indeed (John 8:36).
  • His mercy is new every morning, including this one (Lamentations 3:22–23).

3. Personalized Prayer

Father, I cannot do this on my own and I am done pretending. I surrender this craving, this habit, this hour to You. Show me the way of escape You have already prepared, and give me strength for the next twenty-four hours. Make me new — not someday, but starting now. In Jesus' name, amen.

5. Accountability

Call or text one trustworthy believer today and confess specifically what you are fighting. James 5:16 ties confession to healing — secrecy is the soil sin grows in. If you do not have someone, find a Celebrate Recovery group this week.

6. Encouragement & Hope

Falling down is not the end of recovery; staying down is. A just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again (Proverbs 24:16). Get up.

7. Trust

Sin shall not have dominion over you (Romans 6:14). That is not a feeling to chase — it is a fact to stand on. Trust the verdict God has already declared over your life.

8. Transformation

The God who lifted you out of the miry clay sets your feet on a rock and establishes your goings (Psalm 40:2). The very story you are ashamed of becomes the testimony that frees someone else.
