KJV Bible Verses for Grief
When loss leaves you hollow, Scripture meets you in the valley. Below are verified King James Version verses, God's promises for the brokenhearted, and a prayer you can pray when the tears will not stop.
1. Scripture — Verified KJV
"The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit."
— Psalm 34:18 (KJV)
"Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted."
— Matthew 5:4 (KJV)
"And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."
— Revelation 21:4 (KJV)
"He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds."
— Psalm 147:3 (KJV)
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."
— John 14:1 (KJV)
"Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort; Who comforteth us in all our tribulation."
— 2 Corinthians 1:3–4 (KJV)
"Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness."
— Isaiah 41:10 (KJV)
"But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope."
— 1 Thessalonians 4:13 (KJV)
2. God's Promise
- The Lord is near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18).
- Those who mourn will be comforted by God Himself (Matthew 5:4).
- A day is coming when He wipes every tear away (Revelation 21:4).
- He binds up your wounds — He does not leave you to bleed (Psalm 147:3).
3. Personalized Prayer
Father, my heart is broken and I do not know how to carry this. Draw near to me as You promised — bind up the wounds I cannot reach. Comfort me with the comfort only You can give, and let hope rise even while I weep. Hold me until morning comes. In Jesus' name, amen.
4. Your Next Faithful Step
Light a candle, open your Bible to Psalm 23, and read it aloud — slowly. Then write down one memory you are thankful for. Grief and gratitude can share the same page.
5. Accountability
Text one person tonight and tell them, 'I am grieving and I do not want to be alone in it.' Naming it out loud invites the body of Christ to carry you (Galatians 6:2).
6. Encouragement & Hope
Weeping endures for a night, but joy cometh in the morning (Psalm 30:5). Your sorrow is not the final word — the Resurrection is.
7. Trust
God is not distant from your loss. The same Jesus who wept at Lazarus' tomb weeps with you now (John 11:35). Trust Him with what you cannot understand.
8. Transformation
Those who mourn in Him become wells of comfort for others (2 Corinthians 1:4). The very grief you carry will one day become the gentleness that heals someone else.
